Small Really Is The New Big
February 6, 2010
I am living, breathing proof. With my laptop and some help from my friends, I am bringing my first novel to market. It has taken eighteen months and endless hours but now, you can read my novel. It’s called Sometimes That Happens With Chicken and for a limited time you can download it for free.
Some people think the American dream is dead, but it’s not. It’s just different. Now the American dream inevitably involves a laptop and a smart phone but with very little money you can now do almost anything from the comfort of your own living room.
Once upon a time, the publishing industry harnessed the economies of scale which lowered the price of books and made them available to everyone – rich and poor. That was great, but now, the same industry is being crippled by the diseconomies of scale. For people like me though, technology has made “scale” irrelevant.
When I looked at all the facts, I concluded that I was more likely to sell books my way, than their way. Technology has both empowered people and brought them closer together and these changes are paving the way for indie literature.
Today, I am sure I don’t need a Random House to be a writer. This isn’t my parents’ American dream, but I’d like to think I worked as hard as they did. And I’m sure I worked harder in the last year than anyone who works at any publishing company.
Now, as all my friends know, I really need to get some sleep. Welcome to onegirlonenovel.com and I hope you enjoy Sometimes That Happens With Chicken.

There was never any doubt that when my sister decided that she would publish her own book she would do it. For those of you who know Wanda personally you know that there is nothing she can’t do. She is amazing and dedicated. She has never been afraid to dream big and reach for the stars. She is an inspiration to me and I feel honored to be her sister and friend. Your book is amazing just like you. I love you.
It’s the little things that matter anyways. right? Just read- Sometimes That Happens With Chicken, yeah it does and yeah you might get confused, but don’t worry it’s just digging it’s way into your brain and the light switch just might make that flip.
From day one…….this book dug it’s way into my mind and my heart. You just never know? Or do you? and I will add that the author is someone I trust with my life. She’d probably print out a label, stick it on me and I’d be safe, and my whereabouts would be known for the rest of eternity……but who doesn’t like a good surprise? She can do that too!
Congratulations Wanda, very inspiring words, I am looking forward to getting into the novel. Great work pulling all of this together. Best
